By using Auster you agree to these terms. They are short on purpose.
What Auster is
Auster is a focus timer. You declare a goal and a duration, and during that
session the apps you have chosen are blocked using the parental-control features
your operating system provides. If you quit early, an AI writes you a sarcastic
message about it.
Auster is not a health product. It is not therapy, not
medical or psychological treatment, and not a substitute for professional help
with compulsive technology use, addiction, anxiety or any other condition. If
your relationship with your phone is causing you real distress, speak to a
professional.
The AI messages
When you end a session early, Auster generates a deliberately blunt,
sarcastic message mocking the fact that you stopped. That is the product working
as designed, and you are opting into it by starting a session.
- The messages are generated by a language model and are not
reviewed by a human before you see them. They may occasionally be
strange, unfunny, or land harder than intended.
- They are not advice, not a judgement of you as a person, and not a
statement of fact about you.
- If you do not want to be spoken to that way, finish your sessions — or
stop using the app.
App blocking has limits
- Blocking depends on permissions you grant and on features your operating
system controls. If you revoke those permissions, blocking stops working.
- On Android in particular, a determined user can get around the block.
Auster raises the cost of a distraction; it does not make one impossible.
- Never rely on Auster to block anything safety-critical.
It will not stop emergency calls, and you should not use it in a situation
where being unable to reach an app could cause harm.
- We cannot guarantee that blocking works on every device, OS version or
manufacturer skin.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to agree to these terms
where you live.
- You are responsible for what you type into Auster, including your goals.
Do not put anything sensitive or confidential in them — see the
Privacy Policy for where that text goes.
- Do not use Auster to break the law, abuse the service, attempt to bypass
its limits, or interfere with other people’s use of it.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or
terminate an account that abuses the service.
Subscriptions
- Auster is free to use with limits. Auster Elite is a paid
subscription that removes the daily session cap and unlocks the longer
analytics history.
- Payment is taken by Apple or Google, not by us. Prices are shown in the
app before you buy.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at
least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel through your
Apple ID or Google Play account — we cannot cancel it for you.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.
- If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you buy a
subscription.
Availability
We do our best to keep Auster running, but we do not promise it will always
be available or error-free. Features may change or be removed. If the AI service
we depend on is unavailable, Auster falls back to pre-written messages rather
than failing.
Liability
Auster is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind to the extent the
law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for missed
work, for anything you failed to do because an app was blocked, or for anything
you did because it was not. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be
limited — including for death, personal injury, or fraud.
Your rights as a consumer
If you are a consumer in the EU, UK or Turkey, you keep every statutory right
you have. Nothing in these terms takes those away.
Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you in
the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Auster after that means you
accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, without
affecting the consumer protections of the country you live in.
