Blocking is not working
iPhone
- Auster needs Screen Time permission (Family Controls). If you declined it, go to Settings → Screen Time, make sure Screen Time is on, then start a session again and accept the prompt.
- Apps are chosen through Apple’s own picker. If the picker shows nothing, close Auster fully and reopen it; iOS sometimes needs a second pass after granting permission.
- If you force-quit Auster during a session and never reopen it, the shield can stay up until you launch the app again. Opening Auster releases it immediately.
- iOS 16.0 or later is required.
Android
- Auster needs Usage access (Settings → Apps → Special app access → Usage access → Auster) and permission to display over other apps. Without both, the block wall cannot appear.
- Battery optimisation can kill the guard on some manufacturers. Set Auster to Unrestricted under battery settings, especially on Xiaomi, Huawei, OnePlus and Samsung.
- The block is detected within about a second and then interrupted. That flash of the blocked app is expected; the wall follows.
- Android 7.0 (API 24) or later is required.
Session or streak looks wrong
- Timers are deadline-based, so a session keeps running while the app is closed and settles itself when you return. If a session expired while your phone was off, it is counted as completed.
- Streaks count consecutive calendar days with at least one completed session, in your device’s time zone.
- The free tier allows three sessions per day; the counter resets at midnight local time.
No verdict arrived
Verdicts arrive as a notification and in your Wall of Shame within a few seconds of accepting failure. If notifications are off, you will still find it in LOG. Verdicts are limited to 20 per hour and arrive in the language the app is set to.
Elite and payments
- Purchases are handled entirely by Apple or Google. To restore a purchase on a new device, open the paywall and tap Restore.
- To cancel: iPhone → Settings → your name → Subscriptions; Android → Play Store → Payments & subscriptions. Cancelling keeps Elite until the end of the paid period.
- Refund requests go to Apple or Google under their policies.

Something unsafe? Auster never blocks emergency calls, but if you find any situation where the block wall gets in the way of something safety-critical, tell us first, before anything else.
